Yellow Wheel’s 2022 Major Season

LOOPHOLE

About

LOOPHOLE was Yellow Wheel’s major season in 2022, and was choreographed by Kyall Shanks in collaboration with a cast of 9 dancers. After two years of lockdowns in Naarm/Melbourne and multiple canceled shows and seasons, this was Kyall Shanks’s first Major Season since taking over the company.

LOOPHOLE was a meditation in patience, intimacy and evolution, presented in the round. Over 45 minutes the dancers moved through a sequence of simple scores and repeated movements that overlapped with each other. Through the combination of the specificity of the movements and the sequential evolution, the dancers undertook a sophisticated level of awareness, consideration and tenderness with each other.

The work was viewed from all sides, with the dancers present in the space from doors opening to closing. This forced the audience to witness the entirety of the dancers individual and group journey, and the intimacy required to undertake this meditation together.
